Destination notes

Tirana is best discovered on foot, with time for detours.

Albania’s capital brings together civic squares, café culture, post-socialist architecture and an increasingly confident food scene.

Where to base yourself

Central Tirana makes a short stay easy. Both Maritim Hotel Plaza Tirana and The Plaza Tirana place guests near Skanderbeg Square, museums and the main boulevards. The city is compact enough for walking, but summer heat and busy streets make a comfortable central hotel particularly welcome.

A city day with texture

Morning: the civic centre

Begin at Skanderbeg Square, look into Et’hem Bey Mosque and trace the changing edges of the square. Bunk’Art 2 and the House of Leaves provide important context for Albania’s twentieth-century history.

Afternoon: markets and neighbourhoods

Walk toward Pazari i Ri for market colour, then continue south through the boulevard. The Pyramid area and Blloku show a different side of the city, with design shops, terraces and dinner options.

Practical notes

Tirana is animated late into the evening. For restaurant bookings, taxi arrangements, airport transfers, museum hours and any accessibility needs, ask your hotel concierge or confirm directly with the relevant venue. Carrying some local currency can be useful for small purchases.
