Destination notes

The Albanian Riviera: a road written in limestone and light.

From Vlorë south toward Sarandë, the coast changes tempo: wide bays, mountain passes, stone villages and intensely clear water.

How to approach the coast

The Riviera rewards a measured itinerary. Vlorë is a sensible threshold, particularly for a stay at Maritim Marina Bay Resort & Casino, before the road climbs through Llogara Pass and descends toward Dhërmi, Himarë and beyond. Do not treat the route as a fast transfer: viewpoints, beach turnoffs and mountain traffic make time a valuable part of the plan.

A considered three-night rhythm

Night one: Vlorë

Arrive, settle by the sea and use the evening to reset after travel. The waterfront offers an easy introduction before a southbound drive.

Nights two and three: southern coves

Choose one base rather than changing hotels every night. Dhërmi brings dramatic slopes and beach clubs; Himarë has a more lived-in centre and access to smaller bays. Carry water, sun protection and cash for smaller stops.

When to go

Late May, June, September and early October often offer a more spacious experience than the core summer period. Sea temperatures, ferry patterns, restaurant opening dates and beach services vary seasonally. Always confirm directly with your chosen hotel and local operators.
